A Three In One in North Dallas

Located just short of two hours outside of Waco, is Fire Wheel golf course. This course is actually three courses, as it is more of a golf complex than a golf course. Each course is different in layout and terrain, but are all fairly similar in terms quality and difficulty. The most popular one and the one I will focus most on today is the Old Course.

This course runs through many neighborhoods of North Dallas and can get a little dangerous for the golfer that can't hit a straight ball. The ninth hole is a short par three with houses on either side. I have personally seen and allegedly been a part of a broken window on this hole. Leading up to this hole is a long underground tunnel, going beneath two properties which is something very rare at a golf course.

The picture shown above is on a par five on the back nine. It is clear that the greens are in good shape, as well as the surrounding fairways and roughs. Small ponds are also located throughout the whole course, like the one shown above. Houses can also be seen in the right side of this image, a common theme throughout every course on this complex, especially the old course.

One of my favorite things about this course and a huge draw for people in my generation, this the golf carts. They are newer with nicer seats, giving the golfer a relaxing drive in between holes. They also feature a sound system that the golfer can connect too, something many golf courses are switching too now, but is still quite rare.

Like every course, there are some downsides. The course does not always look like this as there are often many dead spots and jacked up tee boxes. The fairways are also sometimes closed in certain parts, making some holes play differently than designed. This course is only about 35$ to play, which is below average in price, this comes with pros and cons. The pro is that this is a great course for how cheap it is and the golfer really gets a bang for their buck. The con is I am not the only one who knows this, so no matter what time of day, this course is at max capacity.

Overall, I would rate this course a 6/10, it is in great shape and very cheap. It loses some points due to how casual it is, other players often hit into you and also get in the golfers way a lot. It is also important to note that this is my go to course in DFW. Even though I think theres a lot to be fixed, I still love this course and would recommend this to anyone!
